Words of Inspiration & Motivation

"We know that teachers are the key to good child care - and as long as teachers are undervalued, American children, too, will keep getting less than they deserve" - Marcy Whitebook

*********************************************************************************

“If you bake or cook, you probably know that some ingredients left out of a recipe don’t make much difference, but others, such as, sugar in ginger snaps, will ruin your creation. So it is with teachers. Even teachers who have experienced the best preparation and support for ongoing learning cannot demonstrate their competence absent a respectful and rewarding workplace.” – Marcy Whitebook

“To realize a new vision for young children – highlighting the importance of nurturing, structured, age-appropriate early education as a solid foundation for lifelong learning – requires connecting what we expect in terms of teacher competencies and education qualifications with the quality of the environments in which teachers live, learn, and work….” – Marcy Whitebook

Personal Childhood Web

The first person in my Personal Childhood Web is my mother, Rosie Davis. She has been my provider, protector, teacher, psychologist and a lot more. I was sometimes a difficult child but she never gave up on me. My mom made sure that I had everything I needed and more, even when she didn’t have help. She believes in all of my hopes and dreams. She encourages me to keep fighting and trying when I wanted to give up so bad at times. She has made my sister and me her number one priority since the day we were born. She tells me she loves me and when I don’t see her for a few days she makes sure that I know that she misses me. I can truly say that if it wasn’t for her love and confidence in me, I wouldn’t be who I am today. She was and is the BEST mom anyone could ask for and I hope that I have made her proud. I can only hope that I can be a great mother to my kids one day and give them the love and attention that she gave me. I think that all mothers should be like my mom! I love her so much!

The second person in my web is my grandmother, Mildred Golden (R.I.P.). My grandmother was a praying woman and she always prayed for her children and grandchildren. She was strict on me when it came to school work and she made sure that I knew it was because she loved me. I never went to daycare because she kept all of her grandchildren at home. She taught me everything I needed to know by the time I entered kindergarten and made sure I stayed focused throughout school. She made sure my homework was done every day and encouraged me to read books instead of watching television. She is the reason that I love to read so much. She passed away about 12 years ago and I hit a rough patch in my life with school because I missed her so much and didn’t feel like I could do it without her. But I heard her voice from heaven say “I will always be with you” Then I knew I had to get it together because she was watching. That is why it is so important to go as far as i can in my education, so that I can continue to make her proud. R.I.P. Grandma- I Love You

The third person is my sister, Tyria Isom. My little sister has always wanted to hang with her big sister everywhere I went. She gave me hugs and sat in my lap all the time and depended on me to protect her and teach her. My little sister is the one that jumpstarted my passion for teaching. We are six and a half years apart and ever since she was a baby I would read to her. We played teacher all the time and I taught her the alphabets, numbers and eventually how to read. My mom has a tape of me reading the bible and my sister repeating every word I say that she loves to play for people (mostly to embarrass me lol). My sister had told me before that I am the best big sister ever and that she loves me. She is a beautiful and bright young lady that attends Mississippi State University and I love knowing that I had something to do with that. I just love her!

I picked these three but I had an entire family as well as church members and some teachers that where my strong “Microsystem”. Every child needs a strong foundation to be successful. If more parents knew that the way they showed love to and nurtured their child at a young age could negatively or positively affect their child, then hopefully they would do better. I am glad that i had such special people in my life that loved me enough to show me that they loved me and be there for me. I know that all of that love is the reason why I am who I am today and that I will give my children the same love.

Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:12-13

Children's books that I love

I picked this book because as a child I had the entire series. I loved reading as a child and still do as an adult. This series dealt with alot of childhood issues that little girls might face, such as making friends, bullying, etc. I guess my mom wanted me to learn some things through reading and it worked with these books. I just recently gave them away to a young girl at my church and i hope that she cherishes them as much as i did.

Then & Now Picture

I couldnt decide if i wanted to do a current or younger picture of me, so I did both. The picture on the left is of me when I was about 6 and the one on the right is one of my senior heads (17).

Meaningful Quote

“If there is anything we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves.” - Carl Gustav Jung  (Swiss psychiatrist, Psychologist and Founder of the Analytic Psychology, 1875-1961)

I use this quote with the teachers that I train to let them know they have to be an example of what they are teaching. Do as I do not just as I say.
